Cricket Fun at Christmas
Designed by Bridget O'Grady
Hey, I'm Bridget O'Grady, I'm 18 years old and I'm a Patient Member. I was diagnosed with leukaemia at the age of 12 and joined CanTeen when I turned 13 along with my two older sisters.
CanTeen was a huge support for me during my treatment and I knew it was a safe place for me to go if I ever needed to talk to someone. CanTeen is a huge part of my life; the staff and organisation have given me opportunities that I would never have if it wasn't for my cancer experience, and I've made lots of close friends along the way. I'm on our local committee and love getting involved in everything I can.
Fun games of backyard cricket over the Christmas holidays with the family inspired my design.
Christmas at Lake Tekapo
Designed by Millie O'Grady
Hi, my name is Millie O'Grady, I'm 22 years old and I'm a Sibling Member. I joined CanTeen in 2007 when my youngest sister Bridget was diagnosed with leukaemia.
Watching my sister go through treatment was one of the hardest things I've had to endure. You feel so helpless. I quickly learnt to treasure every moment, and I learnt the true power of a smile and the reassurance of a hug. CanTeen has been an incredible support and they have taught me so much.
As a family, we have spent a lot of Christmas holidays in Tekapo and the stones and pine trees around Lake Tekapo are the inspiration behind my design.
Designed by Sarah Champion
Hi there, my name is Sarah Champion, I'm 18 years old and I'm a Patient Member.
I was diagnosed with a brain tumour called craniopharyngioma at the age of 15. I still have many side effects related to the type of surgery I had, but am doing really well.
Being a CanTeen member means I can share my journey with others and help them to overcome some of the many hurdles I've faced. I've made many friendships, and met many amazing people.
Christmas is my favourite time of the year. I particularly love decorating the Christmas tree with many different decorations. The bird represents my cancer journey in a way, as there were many occasions when I'd wish I was free from pain and suffering.
CanTeen Christmas Gift
Designed by Kimi-Ora Holtz
Kia ora, I'm Kimi-Ora Holtz, I'm 16 years old and I'm a Sibling Member. My brother Adam was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia at age three.
After two and a half years of intense chemotherapy, he was given the okay.
I was 14 when I attended my first CanTeen Summer Camp, never in my life have I been surrounded by such beautiful people. The courage, strength and love that every CanTeener possesses is truly humbling.
CanTeen is my home; they're my family. I've been looked after and loved in this organisation, and I consider my membership a gift. Hence my design; I wanted to illustrate how CanTeen is a true gift to be grateful for.
A Kiwiana Christmas
Designed by Brooke-Lyn Holtz
Hey, I'm Brooke-Lyn Holtz, I'm 19 years old and I'm a Sibling Member. At the age of three, my older brother Adam was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.
Thankfully, after a couple of years of treatment, he was given the all clear.
CanTeen is my second family. They're always here for me and my family and it's such a good cause. I'm very grateful to be a part of this organisation.
I wanted to incorporate my Maori ethnicity into my design along with a Kiwiana flavour to make it fun, because that's what Christmas is about; enjoying yourself, your family and having a good time.
